Bertie Bowling was born to John C. "Burhead" Bowling & Mary Jane Morgan on April 28th, 1892. She was the third child and the second daughter. Georgia was the oldest and brother Pearl was next. Bertie married George Asher March 29th, 1918. She was 26 years old. It is surprising to me that she was not married earlier for she was very pretty!
She & George had five children:
Emmonds born April 18, 1919
Shirley Rose born March 16, 1922, died July 16, 1997 in a car accident
Edmond Clinton born Sept. 18, 1924
James Lawton born June 20, 1926
John Kent born Feb. 15, 1928
Bertie was running a country store on Hurricane Creek in Leslie County, Kentucky just across from the Hurricane Cemetary on old highway 80 about 3 miles east of Hyden when she died. The following verbal account was told to me by my father, Ott Bowling: Bertie was not sick that I know of before she became ill. she was working in the store the day she died. Her and George were divorced but he had stopped in to see her earlier in the day. After he left she set down to drink a pop (soft drink for those of you not from the south) and after just a short while she became ill and began to vomit. Within just a few hours she died.

Emmomds married Beulah Pace March 14, 1947. They had one daughter, Louise, who was born May 24, 1949.
Louise married Hubert Darrell Gay August 9, 1971. They have 1 son, Kevin Darrell born March 27, 1975, and 1 daughter, Tracie Lynn born Sept. 7, 1978. Kevin has 2 daughters and 1 step son and Tracie has 1 son. ( I don't know their names at this time)
Edmond married Jennie ? and had 1 daughter, Arbadella. That is all the facts I know about him. I remember him coming to our house when I was a little girl and he always did magic tricks for us and he was pretty good at it, at least it amazed me!
Shirley Rose and John Kent were married but I don't know who to or who their kids are.
James Lawton married Marie Malton and they had 3 sons. Larry Kent, James and Roy Gordan. Larry dies in a car crash while still in high school. James married Pat Morgan and Roy married Judy ?. All have children that I don't know. Hopefully someone from their family will supply details.
